Awards banquet to honour faculty, staff and students

The Organization of Part-time University Students (OPUS) invites the campus community to attend the 21st Annual OPUS Awards Banquet, Thursday, March 21, at the Caboto Club.

All faculty, staff, alumni and part-time undergraduate students are welcome to attend and support their peers at this free event, but seating is limited and filling quickly.

This year’s OPUS award recipients are:

  • OPUS Lifetime Achievement Award: George McMahon, former dean of students
  • OPUS Friend of Students Award: Susan Lester, director of alumni affairs
  • OPUS Teacher of the Year Award: Renata Kobe, Odette School of Business
  • OPUS Volunteer of the Year Award: Elfadil Rahama, OPUS work-study student and volunteer
  • OPUS Faculty Awards: Nathalie Dolbec, languages, literatures and cultures; Brian MacPherson, philosophy; Abdulkadir Hussein, mathematics and statistics
  • OPUS Support Staff Awards: Tim Brunet, liaison and student recruitment; Kris McInnis, university secretariat; Student Health Services staff
  • OPUS Disability Campus Community Recognition Award: Office of Human Rights Equity and Accessibility
  • OPUS Student with Disability Achievement Award: Jennifer Bauder, part-time student
  • Alumni Association Academic Achievement Award: Margaret Rennolds, part-time student
  • Alumni Association First Year Part-time Undergraduate Student Award: Denica Strong, part-time student
  • OPUS Wayne Girard Leadership Memorial Award: Josephine Lo Porto, part-time student
  • OPUS Ken Long Memorial Award: Sheeba Shukoor, part-time student
  • Dr. Kathleen McCrone Award (OPUS): Catherine Burr, part-time student
  • OPUS Appreciation Award: Monsur Elahi, OPUS treasurer; Caroline Spencer, OPUS director at large; Elizabeth Long, OPUS director at large
  • OPUS Bursaries 2013 (valued at $500 each) were given to 10 part-time undergraduate students including two international and one distance ed, chosen based on financial need (two sponsored by Alumni Association).
