Arts instructor’s exhibition explores relationship between revealed and hidden

A free public reception Saturday will celebrate the opening of a solo exhibition of paintings by visual arts instructor José Seoane at the SB Contemporary Art gallery.

The exhibition, entitled “Spaces Between,” consists of large abstract works that reflect on a back-and-forth struggle between two very different worlds, says curator Sarah Beveridge.

“When coming face-to-face with Seoane’s work one is entranced by the earth tones of brown and orange, and elevated through the touches of red, blue and hits of yellow,” she says. “The warmth generated in the work holds you still, in one place, as you stand pondering your own relationship to space.”

The opening reception runs 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 2, in the gallery, located at 1017 Church Street. The exhibition will continue through April 6.
