Basketball tournament offers opportunity to take on cancer

Who knew that you could fight cancer by dribbling?

A team of students from the Odette School of Business have organized a three-on-three basketball tournament Saturday, March 16, as a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Every player in the Hoops4Change tournament will receive a gym bag and t-shirt, but only the winners will get the chance to take on local celebrities for the title!

Celebrities scheduled to play include former Raptor Jimmy King, a member of the Michigan Wolverines’ fab five; Lancer men’s basketball grad Corey Boswell, now an assistant coach with the team; Windsor Police chief Al Frederick; sports columnist Rob Parker; radio personalities Mike Kakuk, Jay Marchello, Luke Nugent and Scott Desbins; and UWindsor standouts Bruce Tucker, Cathy Greenwell and Beth Oakley.

The three-on-three tournament runs 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Denis Centre; registration is $25. Contact Zak Sleiman at Sleiman3@uwindsor.ca or Kody DeDona at Kody@live.ca.

The celebrity game begins at 5 p.m. Admission is $10, $5 for students and free for children eight and under. For tickets, contact Naomi Pelkey at pelkeyn@uwindsor.ca or phone 226-246-2126.
