The campus community is invited to join the celebration as the Office of Public Affairs launches an awareness campaign this week to highlight the University's 50th anniversary celebration weekend coming in September.
On Wednesday, beginning at 11:30 a.m., visitors to the CAW Student Centre Commons area can enjoy a cupcake and learn more about how to volunteer and participate in Celebration Weekend activities, scheduled from September 19 to 22. September activities will include class reunion events, a vintage car show, homecoming football game, children’s fun zone, signature entertainment at Caesars Windsor, and more.
“Wednesday’s event is really meant to get people thinking about how they can get involved in helping to celebrate UWindsor’s first 50 years,” says Holly Ward, chief communications officer. “This is going to be a great way for people to connect with their alma mater, whether they graduated in the sixties or just last year—we will have something planned for everyone.”
The Office of Public Affairs has already begun collecting nostalgic photos and memorabilia that will be displayed and shared on its 50th anniversary web page and in a display case at Leddy Library. Alumni can share their own memories and photos at http://www.uwindsor.ca/anniversary/contact
As well, the first of a series of advertisements promoting the event will be rolled out this week, using a 1963 yearbook photo as its focus.
“We wanted to create a sense of nostalgia and history for both our alumni and current students,” Ward says of the ad campaign. “It is a walk down memory lane for some and a chance for today’s students to see how things used to be on campus. The 50th anniversary will be a wonderful event for everyone associated with the university and we wanted to give people plenty of time to plan their schedules to join us.”
