The UWindsor student newspaper, the Lance, will offer journalists from across the province a look at media misrepresentation of Windsor and Detroit when it hosts a conference entitled “Between the (Head)lines,” March 29 to 31.
The event is the Ontario regional conference for Canadian University Press (CUP), a national co-operative of more than 80 campus newspapers. Lance editor Natasha Marar says it will feature speakers, roundtable discussions, social events and newsroom tours of the Windsor Star, and local affiliates of CTV and CBC.
“We are planning to use our theme as a launching point to explore the stories behind the obvious and sensational, and how we can use journalism to unearth the real stories behind our campuses and communities,” she says.
The conference is open to all students and members of the public; online registration closes March 27. Find more information, including a list of scheduled speakers, on the conference website.
