New offering from IT Services to provide anti-virus protection

Campus computers have a new partner in the fight against viruses. Information Technology Services has launched Sophos Endpoint Security and Control to replace Trend Micro Officescan.

The University’s use of the Trend Micro product will expire November 30, leaving devices unprotected, says systems programmer Ramona Codreanu.

“It is imperative that users install the new anti-virus on your computers prior to November 30,” she says.

Users of systems that connect to the Novell network will be prompted at login to migrate automatically from Officescan to the new Sophos anti-virus software. The migration process takes about 15 minutes and requires a system restart to finalize the installation.

For non-Novell systems, stand-alone installer packages for Windows and Mac are available for download, along with installation instructions, from http://toolbox.uwindsor.ca:

  1. Login with your UwinID credentials and select “Software” tab from the menu.
  2. Scroll down to “Sophos Endpoint Security Anti-Virus.”
  3. Select the appropriate instructions tab.

Please direct any questions, concerns or requests for assistance to install Sophos, to departmental IT staff or the ITS Service Desk at 519-253-3000, ext. 4440, e-mail helpdesk@uwindsor.ca.
