Campus community joins Technology Day activities

Approximately 300 members of the UWindsor community took part in Campus Technology Day May 7 to get the latest information on tools and trends in tech.

“We are looking forward today to learn more about Microsoft 365, and FluidSurveys as well, since we use them a lot.” said Maryan Amalow, Executive Director for the Organization of Part-Time University Students (OPUS).

Empowering U was the theme for the one-day conference, which included a keynote session on mobile technology and its role in democratic engagement, disaster response, education, and health.

The day also featured a number of interactive presentations discussing the impact of technology in enhancing learning, teaching, research, and community development.

“Such days are inspirational - they create opportunities for discussions and put new ideas in front of people,” said Nancy Walton, the conference’s keynote speaker and Director of E- learning at Ryerson University.

“The fact that faculty are involved in technology day is excellent as it is important for them to be aware of new technologies and trends to further learn what engages or disengages students.”

UWindsor Computing Consultant Marcin Pulcer said the day tackled major changes in current technology, noting the recent switch to Microsoft 365 collaboration tools and a ramp up on Blackboard implementation.

“I can confidently say that whatever sessions the participants chose to attend they would have gained knowledge that would allow them to work better, faster, and/or smarter,” said Pulcer.

Health Plan Administrator Steve Janscev said he found the event to be beneficial.

“It’s good to have an annual refresher for the campus community and to make sure we are informed.”
