Faculty member honoured during alma mater’s centenary celebration

A UWindsor professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology was honoured to have been named one of the 100 most notable alumni of Bryn Mawr College’s

Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research during its celebration of its 100-year anniversary, last month in Philadelphia.

“I was very surprised when Bryn Mawr contacted me about having been selected for this recognition,” said Suzanne McMurphy, a three-time graduate of the school (MSS 1984, MLSP 1985, PhD 1993). “Given the school’s long history, I am extremely honoured to be among their 100 distinguished alumni.”

Founded in 1912, Bryn Mawr is one of the oldest schools of social work in the United States, and the first to award doctoral degrees. Since its inception, over 4,480 students have received master’s and doctoral degrees from the school.

Dr. McMurphy received her award at a luncheon November 13 celebrating the legacy of the school and the contributions of graduates to the fields of social work and social policy.
