A campus sorority is organizing a charity walk and run October 23 along Windsor’s riverfront to benefit a foundation dedicated to bringing the gift of hearing to those who would otherwise live in the isolation of a silent world.
The UWindsor chapter of Delta Zeta is hosting Hike for Hearing in support of the Starkey Hearing Foundation, which funds hearing aids for lower-income people in North America, and distributes recycled devices in needy communities around the world.
“We’ve set a target of raising $5,000,” says Kiera Royle, the sorority’s vice president of philanthropy. “We’re hoping to register 500 people to join the walk.”
The event will feature not only a 5-km walk, but a barbecue, raffles, live music, and booths providing information on services for hearing loss and disability in the community. It is set to begin at 11 a.m. at the Riverfront Festival Plaza.
