Women’s soccer team advances to provincial final four tourney

The Lancer women’s soccer team upset the top-seeded York Lions in a shoot-out Sunday in Toronto to advance to the Ontario University Athletics final four tournament November 4 and 6 in London.

It was the second straight playoff game Windsor needed a shoot-out to secure victory. After going scoreless during regulation and overtime, all four Lancers in the shoot-out — Cassie Chretien, Giulia Barile, Chelsea Zavitz and Jaclyn Faraci — hit the back of the net.

Goaltender Krystin Lawrence stopped 10 shots for the shutout and forced two misses in the shoot-out to earn the win. It capped a big weekend for Lawrence, who also scored three goals playing forward for the Lancer women’s hockey team.

The Windsor side will next take to the pitch for a semi-final against the UOIT Ridgebacks at Mustang Field on Friday, November 4. Game time is 3 p.m. The gold and bronze medal deciders will follow Sunday.
