Rookie and veteran football players earns provincial honours

Lancer football was honoured twice by Ontario University Athletics, which has named linebacker Dan Metcalfe to its all-rookie team and selected fifth-year offensive lineman Randy Beardy as a second-team all-star.

Head coach Joe D’Amore praised both players, at opposite ends of their varsity careers.

“Dan Metcalfe was everything that we thought we were going to get,” he said. “He came into his own as the season came on and he was our leading tackler for most of the year.”

D’Amore noted that Beardy is currently playing with the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League: “His leadership and skill will be hard to replace. We are extremely proud of him.”
