Students to lead delivery of Head Start programming

A new model for the university’s Head Start programming will see student leaders take a more active role, says Beth Oakley, director of the Student Success Centre.

“We are very excited to introduce this innovative way to deliver transitional programming for our incoming students,” she says. “In consultation with current students, we have devised a new set of learning outcomes that focus more specifically on the strategies students need in order to successfully navigate campus culture, particularly in first year.”

Find a list of learning outcomes on the Head Start website.

The program will also offer more Saturday sessions, as assessments from participants indicated students favour weekend events over weekday events. The centre has set the following dates for 2017:

  • Friday, May 26
  • Saturday, May 27
  • Monday, May 29
  • Saturday, June 3
  • Monday, June 5
  • Friday, July 28
  • Saturday, July 29
  • Saturday, August 12

Oakley says the centre will release more details on the revamped Head Start program in weeks to come. She welcomes questions or concerns at oakleyb@uwindsor.ca.
