Artist to speak on bringing hidden history to life

Media, performance and social practice artist Camille Turner will discuss her work in a free public presentation in room 115, LeBel Building, on Wednesday, March 1, at 6 p.m.

Turner’s interventions, installations and public engagements have been presented throughout Canada and internationally. Her current focus is on Afrofuturism, bringing hidden and erased histories to life through place-based explorations. She examines the influence of hidden stories on perceptions of national identity, particularly in regards to slavery in Canada.

In her work, she says, “I step into history to create works of the imagination where past and future collide.”

Turner teaches art, culture and community building in the New One program at the University of Toronto and creates experiential learning tools and workshops for educators.
