Lancer men still in hunt for berth in national hockey tournament

The Lancer men’s hockey team fell to the York Lions in the third and deciding game of their Western Conference title series Saturday, but its season isn’t over yet.

Windsor will face off against the McGill Redman in Montreal on Friday, March 10, with the winner advancing to compete for the U Sports championship. The Lancers had evened up their series against York with a 4-2 victory Friday before dropping a 6-3 decision in Saturday’s clincher.

Friday’s Ontario University Athletics bronze medal game will be webcast live on www.oua.tv. The puck will drop at 7 p.m.

Women’s basketball claims OUA bronze

Lancer women’s basketball claimed its second consecutive bronze medal at the Ontario University Athletics championship tournament with a 75-64 victory over the McMaster Marauders, Saturday in Kingston.

“We’re happy to finish with a win but it’s not where we want to be,” said head coach Chantal Vallée. Her team lost its semi-final, 64-56 to the Queen’s Gaels on Friday. “Yesterday was our chance and we didn’t get it done.”

Carleton beat out Queen’s Saturday for the program’s first-ever provincial title.
