Lancers promise full weekend of varsity sports action

Lancer teams will join pre-season competition along with league play this weekend.

Soccer will host McMaster on Saturday and Brock on Sunday at Alumni Field; the women play at 1 p.m. and the men at 3:15 p.m. both days.

Football will travel to Ottawa to take on the Gee-Gees Saturday; kick-off is at 1 p.m.

Cross-country will compete in the Western Invitational in London on Saturday.

Women’s hockey will play a couple of pre-season games at South Windsor Arena — Saturday against the Waterloo Warriors and Sunday against the London Devilettes of the Provincial Women’s Hockey League. The puck will drop at 4 p.m. both days.

Men’s hockey is competing in the Western Tournament in London, facing off against Waterloo at 4 p.m. Friday and against the host Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Women’s volleyball will host the Sheridan College Bruins for an exhibition match Sunday at 10 a.m. in the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse.

The women’s basketball team will host pre-season contests against two of the country’s top college programs. On Friday, September 22, the Lancers will take to the court against the Montmorency College Nomades from Laval, Quebec. The Nomades have won nine national titles, including a three-year run from 2013 to 2015.

The Humber College Hawks, Ontario’s first-ever Canadian College National Champions in 2016, are the competition on Friday, September 29. Both games will tip off in the St. Denis Centre at 7 p.m.
