Feedback solicited on funding agency data management policy

The Office of Research and Innovation Services encourages University of Windsor researchers to provide feedback on the draft Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy. The draft policy outlines proposed requirements related to institutional data management strategies, researcher data management plans and data deposit.

The Tri-agencies have invited institutions, associations, organizations, and individuals to comment on the draft policy and its usefulness in advancing data management practices in Canada. Feedback will inform the final design of the policy, which the agencies plan to launch in 2019. The consultation deadline is September 30.

Members of the University community should provide their input directly to one of the email addresses below and share their submission at vpri@uwindsor.ca. Broad input from as wide a range of disciplines as possible is important to reflect the data management needs in different areas of scholarly activity.

Feedback may be provided, via e-mail, directly to the agency your research is most aligned to at the following e-mail addresses:

In addition, the University of Windsor Research Ethics Board (REB) is joining with REBs nationally to provide a response to the draft policy.

While plans for data management are already a component of research ethics applications, the University of Windsor REB is revising its main application form to consolidate questions on data management into one section to make it easier for researchers to provide similar information across REB and funding applications. Because the questions on data management plans are taken from areas of the current application, the REB anticipates that the new section will not add any additional response burden on researchers. For more information on these changes to the REB forms, contact ethics@uwindsor.ca.

The Leddy Library provides research data management support that includes expertise, knowledge and consultation on data management concepts and tools such as the web tool DMP Assistant, which was designed to help researchers think through the elements of a plan. For more information, see the Academic Data Centre’s webpage on Research Data Management, or contact data librarian Kristi Thompson (kristi.thompson@uwindsor.ca) or your subject librarian for assistance.
