Film biography recalls women’s equality activist

Rebel. Nun. Ex-nun. Activist. Feminist. Pacifist. Pat Noonan was all of these things, before her death in August 2018.

Students in the course “The History of Women’s Movements” will host a screening of a film documenting the life of the social activist at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in room 203, Toldo Health Education Centre.

Directed by UWindsor professor Kim Nelson and Audra Macintyre, the 2013 film This is what a feminist sounds like provides a guided tour of the burgeoning of woman’s rights and gender equality in North America during the 20th century.

“Pat was an icon of epic proportions and we were lucky enough that she chose to live and work in Windsor,” Nelson says. “It was an utter privilege to get to know her. She was such a bright light, the kind that shines on.”

Wednesday’s screening is free and open to the public. A discussion and refreshments will follow.
