Movie documents human changes to Earth

The SoCA Armouries is the setting of a free public screening March 19 of the 2018 documentary Anthropocene: the Human Epoch, a cinematic meditation on humanity’s massive reengineering of the planet.

Filmmakers Jennifer Baichwal, Nicholas de Pencier, and Edward Burtynsky travelled to six continents and 20 countries to document the impact of humans on Earth — from concrete seawalls in China that now cover 60 per cent of its mainland coast, to the biggest terrestrial machines ever built in Germany, to the devastated Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

At the intersection of art and science, Anthropocene: the Human Epoch witnesses a critical moment in geological history, as the ecosphere is shaped more by humankind than nature.

The screening will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the building, located at 37 University Ave. E.
