Project to share a kind word with nursing home residents

Windsor Law student Jessica Hammond is reaching out to senior residents in nursing homes, and invites others to join her.

The SENcerely Project collects short notes and messages and passes them on as a friendly distraction during the difficult time of social distancing. So far, more than a dozen residences in Windsor, Chatham, London, Toronto, and Calgary have signed on to receive letters from volunteers.

“I was inspired to start this initiative after reading an article on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on seniors, especially with most nursing home centres placing a hold on visits,” Hammond says. “I wanted to find a way to offer residents a social connection so they wouldn’t feel as alone during self-isolation, and to let them know that the community is standing by their side.”

She has provided a link for messages, with some suggestions on what to write. Submit your contribution through the project website.
