Douglas Kneale to transition from role of provost

UWindsor president Robert Gordon sent a message to the campus community Wednesday:

As some of you may be aware, our Provost & Vice President, Academic, Dr. Douglas Kneale, has made the decision to transition from his role this spring, after a prestigious 38-year career in academia.

Dr. Kneale joined the University of Windsor in 2015 and has been instrumental in leading several successful areas of focus such as major hiring initiatives; the Provost’s Task Force on Experiential Learning; a Student Mental Health strategy; and efforts to enhance community-engaged practice.  Dr. Kneale also served as Interim President & Vice-Chancellor of the University from July 2018 through August 2019.   Please join me in thanking Dr. Kneale for his tremendous efforts and dedication to our institution and in wishing him all the best in the future.

As per Senate Bylaw 14, after consultation with the Senate, a recommendation for an Interim Provost and Vice President, Academic will be shared with the Board of Governors and announced in the coming weeks. Dr. Kneale will be formally transitioning from the role on June 30, but will be taking accrued vacation prior to this date:  this interim appointment will begin May 1, 2021.   A formal search will then follow, with a goal of appointing a new Provost & Vice-President Academic during 2022-23.

Congratulations, Douglas, and thank you for your service to our campus and community.

President & Vice-Chancellor
