Workshops to help instructors prepare for fall classes

Whether you are a new faculty member, teaching online for the first time, or just looking to brush up on your skills for teaching in the fall, the Office of Open Learning has a workshop to help.

The team will offer the one-week course “Engaging Students in the Online Classroom” twice, starting Aug. 9 and 23, and “Introduction to Teaching Online” will start Aug. 16. These are in addition to shorter workshops targeting specific skillsets such as HyFlex teaching, using the virtual classroom, and creating videos or other interactive content using H5P.

Professor Catherine Heard of the School of Creative Arts benefited from the training.

“Engaging Students in the Online Classroom helped me to feel confident teaching in the online environment by exploring pedagogy and best practices, as well as introducing me to online learning applications that give students real-time feedback on their learning and opportunities to engage with one another in formal and informal settings,” she said.
