Sports fanaticism subject of Friday lecture

Forming an emotional attachment to a favourite team is a key part of the fan experience, says Brendan Dwyer.

Director of research and distance learning for the Center for Sport Leadership at Virginia Commonwealth University and a research fellow with the North American Society for Sport Management, Dr. Dwyer will address his work exploring the topic in a public presentation entitled “Rationally Studying the Irrational: A Career Examining Sports Fans” on Friday, Nov. 12.

Dwyer’s research interests centre around sport consumer behaviour with a distinct focus on the media consumption habits of fantasy sport participants and behavioural patterns of ticket purchasers.
