Friday event to kick off local celebration of Black History Month

A free public event Friday, Jan. 27, will serve to kick off Windsor-Essex observances of Black History Month.

Co-hosted by the Essex County Black Historical Research Society, the Windsor West Indian Association, the Amherstburg Freedom Museum, and Black Women of Forward Action, the occasion promises:

  • Black history highlights,
  • the release of the 2023 Windsor-Essex Black History Month schedule of events, and
  • performances by Erik E-Tomic Johnson, Bunmi Africa, Florine Ndimubandi, Mbonisi Zikhali Zomkhonto, Teajai Travis, and Nadine Manroe-Wakerell.

It starts at 7 p.m. at the Caribbean Centre, 2410 Central Ave.
