Lancers called to cheer at Detroit Free Press Marathon

Ready to bring the noise and show your Lancer pride?

Don your blue and gold this Sunday, Oct. 20, as 26,000 runners from over 40 countries lace up for the 47th annual Detroit Free Press Marathon, racing through both Detroit and Windsor.

Among the crowd will be UWindsor alumni, students, faculty and staff, crossing the Ambassador Bridge and returning through the tunnel in this unique international event.

Former and current Lancers are encouraged to pump up the energy at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel Cheer Zone. Hosted by the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel and the Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County, the cheer zone will be stationed on Park Street, across from the tunnel’s customs exit.

From 7 to 11 a.m., community figures Dave Orshinsky and Gary Belanger will provide live commentary, and the NorthStar Cheer team will lead the Final Mile Tunnel salute, encouraging runners on their final stretch.
