Visiting fellow open to conversations around teaching and learning

Pat Maher is hoping to connect with like-minded individuals during his short visits to Windsor.

Maher will serve as a visiting fellow from Jan. 20 to 24 and Feb. 10 to 14. His visit is co-hosted by the Centre for Teaching and Learning and the Office of Open Learning.

Over the years, he has collaborated with members from both offices on several projects, so when he saw an opportunity to become a visiting fellow, he said, “That’s for me."

In addition to connecting with colleagues on current projects Maher is working on, he is open to meeting faculty members, specifically those in integrative science and kinesiology, to strike up new conversations about envisioning that next big project.

“I’ve come down this week to get a lay of the land and then figure out where I can really purposefully help out or have good conversations in February,” he says.

His research focuses on outdoor education and the connections between technology, social media, and the outdoors. He has just published a Routledge handbook on digital mobile technology, social media, and the outdoors.

Maher is currently on sabbatical from Nipissing University, where he is a full professor in physical and health education.

He is a fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, a 3M National Teaching Fellow, and is the chair of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. His full biography is available to read on the CTL’s website.

Since 2007, the CTL has hosted more than 40 visiting fellows from the U.S.A., Canada, Jamaica, Australia, England, Belgium, New Zealand, South Africa, Nigeria, and China.
