Art project to be projected one night only

A master’s student of visual arts will present a unique work this week.

Actualized Space(s): site projection is both real and virtual, says its creator, Nicolas de Cosson. Patrons will stand outside the SB Contemporary Art gallery on Thursday, April 26, to view the projection from dusk to 10 p.m.

It deals with the idea of the gallery space as one in constant transition, says de Cosson.

UWindsor reveals vision for downtown campus

Preliminary renderings of the University of Windsor’s downtown campus were revealed by president Alan Wildeman during a media conference Wednesday, April 17, in the Windsor Armouries.

“The University of Windsor is creating new spaces where our students, faculty and staff can be engaged in innovative teaching, learning and discovery, and where they can more effectively partner with the arts community and social agencies to make a difference,” Dr. Wildeman said.

Tree symbolizes constitutional growth and change

A tree is the perfect symbol of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, says law student Lama Sabbagh.

“Like a tree, the charter grows and changes, evolving with society,” she said Tuesday as members of the Charter Project sponsored a tree planting outside the Ron W. Ianni Faculty of Law Building.

Plus, she added, the tree is a red maple, a symbol of Canadian identity.

Event to celebrate art professor’s retirement

Friends and colleagues of visual arts professor Susan Gold Smith are invited to celebrate her retirement at Fluxing Forward, Thursday, April 19, at Phog Lounge.

Gold Smith is a former director of the School of Visual Arts. Her art has been exhibited in world capitals from New York to London, Copenhagen to Berlin, and she has contributed as a curator to galleries, conferences, and international exhibitions. In 2010, she received an Arts Leadership Award from the Windsor Endowment for the Arts.

Campus Police organize barbecue to benefit Bernie Mulligan

Members of the Campus Community Police Service will host a lunchtime barbecue today – Tuesday, April 17 – to benefit Bernie Mulligan, a UWindsor carpenter undergoing treatment for cancer.

The event will run 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the eastern entrance to the CAW Student Centre and will feature hot dogs and hamburgers, as well as live music by Campus Police officers.

Lecture to provide update on cancer research

UWindsor biology professor Lisa Porter will provide an update on the state of the battle against cancer in a free public lecture in the Freed-Orman Centre on Wednesday, April 18, at 5 p.m.

A cell biologist, Dr. Porter holds the Assumption University Chair in Cancer Research.

A discussion and refreshments will follow her lecture, entitled “Making Strides in the Fight Against Cancer: What has Research Done for You?”
