President’s address looks ahead to next 50 years

If the foundations of courage, love and hope are compromised, an education will fall short on its promise, UWindsor President Alan Wildeman said in a public address Thursday on campus.

“I believe it is the University’s duty to provide a supportive environment and spaces within which every person, regardless of who they are, can feel that those foundations are enabled so that their own human spirit can thrive,” he said to a crowd of hundreds of faculty, students, staff and members of the broader community.

New GLIER director hopes to unite campus environmental researchers

Over the next five years, Dan Heath hopes to unite the wide variety of researchers across campus studying environmental issues.

“I really want to expand the role of environmental research at the University of Windsor,” said Dr. Heath, a biology professor who takes over as the new director of the University’s Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research in May.

Trivia contest offers tickets to music student showcase

Math and stats appoints new department head

A familiar face has taken over the reins of the Department of Mathematics & Statistics.

Sudhir Paul began as head of the department at the start of 2012; his term will conclude June 30, 2015. Dr. Paul has been a member of the department since 1982 and has previously served as its acting head.

He holds the rank of University Professor and is a fellow of both the Royal Statistical Society and the American Statistical Association.

University Club reintroducing soup and salad bar combo

The University Club is reintroducing its popular soup and salad bar combo for lunch, offering a choice of four salads, two soups and fresh rolls and butter daily for just $7 per person.

The club is offering a free buffet lunch to its members during Membership Appreciation Day on Thursday, January 12.

Pass earns a year’s worth of casual dress days

The campus campaign for United Way has announced an annual pass entitling employees to participate in its Thursday dress-down days for just $50.

The University has approved dress-down days every Thursday through 2012. Individuals can purchase a sticker each week from their canvasser for a $2 donation to the United Way.

“The pass is just $50, and that donation is tax deductible,” says organizer Lynn McLeod. “If you participate through the year, the pass saves you more than half the cost, plus the tax deduction – what a deal!”

Student skills development test focus of $30,000 pilot study
