Reception to celebrate official opening of International Student Centre

The International Student Centre invites the campus community to celebrate its new location during an official opening ceremony on Thursday, February 16.

An open house reception runs 2 to 4 p.m. with the ceremony scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

The centre, located on the second floor of Laurier Hall, is accessed through a dedicated entrance toward the north end of the building’s west wall. To arrange for access to an elevator, please phone 519-253-3000, ext. 3938.

Celebrating success stories critical for maintaining research excellence

There’s never been a more important time than now to celebrate the contributions that research makes to improving society, according to Alan Wildeman.

In a climate of funding cuts and increased scrutiny, it’s critical for researchers to share their success stories with a broader audience to convince average Canadians of how it makes their lives better, the University of Windsor president told those who attended the Celebration of Excellence in Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity Monday.

Film documents drama of epic change in India

The International Student Centre International Wednesdays documentary series presents a screening of Myth and Might, the opening episode in the CBC series India Reborn, February 8 at noon in the centre on the second floor of Laurier Hall.

Festival a celebration of African diaspora

AfroFest, the African Diaspora Festival, opened yesterday and continues through the week in the CAW Student Centre.

A film screening begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Commons, and Wednesday, February 8, is HIV Awareness Day, with a presentation by the AIDS Committee of Windsor at 11 a.m., a lecture by Nesha Haniff of the University of Michigan at 1 p.m., and a panel discussion at 2:15 p.m.

Photographer casts eye on UWindsor campus

What does a year in the life of the University of Windsor look like? Photographer Richard Bain is hoping students, faculty and staff will tell him.

Since last fall, he has been taking pictures of campus life for a book to be published by Binea Press. It will be Bain’s sixth project chronicling an Ontario institution of higher learning, following volumes on Western, McMaster, Guelph, Brock, and Fanshawe College.

Campus Ministry dinner to feature Iron Chef-style competition

Diners will be the judges during an Iron Chef-style cooking competition at Assumption University on Monday, February 6.

Three teams will compete to use a secret ingredient in the tastiest and most creative dishes during Campus Ministry’s Monday dinner. For just $2, student diners can try all three meals and pick their favourites.

Set to start at 6 p.m. in the Freed-Orman Centre, the event follows 5:30 p.m. Mass in Assumption University Chapel. Find more information on the Facebook events page.

Engineering students win recognition for optimizing micro-brewery

Faster than some people can sip a pint of beer, a group of UWindsor industrial engineering students were redesigning the production line of a Halifax microbrewery to help cut its costs.

Christina Asuncion, Maria Marin, David Impens and Abdulqader Alsobaihi took silver-medal honours at the Institute of Industrial Engineers Student Conference, January 21 at Dalhousie University, for their case study into Garrison Brewing, which produces craft beers.
