Lancer game to foster the giving spirit

At this year’s Thanksgiving weekend game, the Lancer football team will take on the Queen’s Gaels, Saturday, October 6, at 7 p.m. on Alumni Field. This final regular-season home game comes after a hard-earned 26-22 victory over the York Lions on September 29.

A win for the Lancers would be their fourth on the season and set them up for further victories against the McMaster Marauders and Waterloo Warriors.

BookFest roster boasts campus content

The University of Windsor will be well-represented at BookFest Windsor, October 25 to 27 at the Capitol Theatre and Arts Centre.

Eagle-eyed students set biodiversity record on birdwatching field trip

Sixty University of Windsor biology students set a biodiversity record during a class field expedition on Saturday, September 29.

Students in professor Dan Mennill’s ornithology class observed 64 different species of birds on their day-long trip to Point Pelee National Park and Holiday Beach Conservation Area.

“This is the eighth year that I’ve taught this course,” explained Dr. Mennill, “and we’ve seen anywhere from 38 to 59 species during a full day of birdwatching. But we’ve never broken the barrier of 60 species.”

University community mourns death of campus carpenter Bernie Mulligan

Friends and colleagues recall Bernie Mulligan as a caring person whose contributions will be missed. Mulligan, a carpenter in the UWindsor maintenance department, died October 1 at the age of 46.

Maintenance manager Rajeev Chawla recalled him as a team player.

“Bernie was always upbeat, always had a smile on his face,” Chawla said. “He had the unique ability to look at any job as a challenge to be completed. He is definitely going to be missed.”

James McGinlay, now manager of residence facilities, started his campus career alongside Mulligan in facility services.
