Student engineers win in February quiz

Sandeep Guntupalli, a master’s student in electrical and computer engineering, won yesterday’s DailyNews trivia quiz and the fabulous prize package pictured above.

One question tripped up most respondents – the 1900 Paris Olympics were the most recent Summer Games held during a non-leap year. Montreal hosted the event in 1976, a leap year. The Gregorian calendar now in use does not add a leap day to most end-of-century years, including 1900.

Restaurant to host fundraiser for engineering student design team

A team of Windsor engineering students engaged in designing and building a radio-controlled aircraft are partnering with a local chain restaurant to raise money for the project.

The 2012 SAE Aero Design team has arranged to receive a percentage of the dinner proceeds at Kelsey’s Tecumseh location on Monday, February 27. The team will receive 10 per cent of food sales between 6 and 11 p.m. at the restaurant, located at 9 Amy Croft Drive in Tecumseh.

Summer 2008, a year before Hydro-Québec starts building an 8-billion dollar hydroelectric project, Alexis de Gheldere and Nicolas Boisclair decide to canoe down the Romaine River with two environmentalists… a “river trip” of 500 kilometres which will take them from the source in Labrador to the mouth in the Gulf of St-Lawrence.

Event promises to consider the Qur’an in the light of science

A free public event on Thursday, February 16, will feature two speakers addressing the topic “The Qur’an in the Light of Science”

AfroFest to offer a taste of the diaspora

AfroFest, the African Diaspora Festival, continues Thursday and Friday with events to stimulate all the senses.

Thursday at 4 p.m. in the CAW Student Centre Commons, the festival will feature a series of performances – from story-telling to music, dance and African drumming.

On Friday, February 10, organizers offer Taste of the Diaspora, a chance to sample foods from around the world sharing a common African heritage. Starts at 4 p.m., also in the CAW Student Centre Commons.
