A reception today to honour staff, faculty and retiree donors to the 2012/13 Annual Giving Program will proceed rain or shine.
It’s easy to convince colleagues to donate to the University through its Annual Giving Program, says volunteer canvasser Gene Hirt of the finance department.
“I just remind them they can choose where the money goes,” he says. “If they like the arts, give to the arts. If they have a daughter studying engineering, they can direct their gift to support engineering.”
Faculty, staff and retiree donors have received invitations to an appreciation reception on June 6. The one-hour event will begin at 2 p.m. in the Student Courtyard between Dillon and Memorial halls—rain or shine.
The annual reception thanking employee donors to the University is always a wonderful occasion, says campaign chair Bruce Tucker.
“This is an opportunity for us to show appreciation to all the faculty and staff who have contributed and made the campaign such a huge success,” says Dr. Tucker, associate vice-president, academic. “We really hope that everyone will come out. It is so upbeat when so many people who are passionate about the University and supporting our students come out to celebrate.”
Contributors to the Annual Giving Program who make their donations by April 30 will be credited with a gift to its 2012 Plant a Seed: Here We Grow Again campaign, says chair Bruce Tucker.
“UWindsor employees and retirees who participate will receive an invitation to this spring’s donor recognition event,” Dr. Tucker says. “It is a tangible demonstration of the University’s appreciation of those faculty and staff members who go beyond their work efforts to support student success.”
Howard Pawley, professor emeritus of political science and former premier of Manitoba, will recount stories from his memoir, Keep True: A Life in Politics, during a free public event at the Windsor Public Library’s central branch on Wednesday, October 19.
Pawley will discuss his 19 years in the Manitoba legislature, culminating in his 1981-88 term as premier, the inner workings of government, and political controversies from introducing public auto insurance to the Meech Lake accord.
He will also sign copies of his book, which will be available for purchase.
