Russian adventure helps drama student develop greater confidence

A month-long trip to Russia this summer helped drama student Elizabeth Kalles find a new voice, a greater sense of self-assurance, and a measure of certitude about her artistic aspirations.

Lancer coach to provide television commentary for Olympic women’s basketball coverage

Chantal Vallée, head coach of Lancer women’s basketball, will try a new experience this summer, providing on-air analysis during CTV’s broadcast of Olympic women’s basketball.

“I am thrilled about this new adventure and for the chance to share in the Olympic Games this year,” says Vallée. “I'm honoured that CTV and producer Gord Cutler has given me this opportunity. It will be great exposure for our program, our university and our city. I am looking forward to this new challenge and to experience the Olympics in a different capacity than solely a viewer and fan.”

Art festival features work of students, grads and faculty

The festival, organized by the Artcite gallery, turns businesses and storefronts into display spaces for local artists.

More than two dozen venues will showcase works by 60+ artists from Windsor-Essex and Detroit.

Artists taking their works to the streets of Walkerville this weekend

The Walkerville Art Walk & Rock is a great opportunity for local artists to show their work, says a UWindsor student who is participating in the event, July 20 and 21.

Fans asked to show Canadian pride for Olympic send-off

The athletics department is encouraging fans to wear red and white clothing or gear with a “Canada” theme to its July 20 reception to show their support for Lancer alumna Melissa Bishop (BHK 2010, B.Ed 2011).

The runner, Canada’s top-ranked woman in the 800 metre event, will leave for Europe this weekend to begin her journey towards the London Olympic Games. The public is invited to a send-off celebration Friday at 11:45 a.m. in the St. Denis Centre’s multi-purpose room.

Contest a quiz of summer song sing-along

Campus Police special constable Kevin Jarvis’ CD “Beautifully Gloomy,” featuring the song Summer Moon, is the inspiration for today’s DailyNews quiz, and is the prize awaiting its winner.

The album is available at the University Bookstore and other retailers for just $15.
