MORE Mechanical Engineering Activity

  1. The activity involves understanding how material properties and physical analysis play key roles in crash testing for vehicles.
  2. For the activity, a remote control car is crash-tested against a barrier, such as a wall. Computer related analysis related to the activity will follow. All materials will be supplied and the intent is to have students build alternative barriers out of foam and to actually have them participate in the crash testing.  Requirements include having a space of about 5 to 6 metres in length (20 feet maximum) to run the car (in can be a hallway, outside in the main foyer, gym, cafeteria, etc.)
  3. A white screen or white wall in the classroom would be useful for projecting the analysis of the activity, as well as a platform for a laptop computer.
