Reporting to the Dean, the Manager Administration leads and manages the ongoing operations of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (FAHSS) activities related to human resources, personnel management, coordination of administrative issues related to Senate Bylaws and policies, and other business-related operations for the Faculty.  In the execution of the job functions the incumbent works with Senior Management, Deans, Heads/Directors, Managers and Supervisors to ensure rules, processes and procedures are followed.  The Manager, also research into matters for the Dean in order to provide expertise and solutions to various administrative and human resource matters within the faculty.


The successful candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a field such as Business Administration, Psychology, Human Resources, or Social Sciences
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience related to human resource management, supervising and administration
  • Supervisory experience in a unionized workplace
  • Understanding of legal contracts/documents
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, reasoning, and negotiating skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), customer service, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheets, databases and other computer systems and programs
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and manage within institutional policies and procedures
  • Ability to multi-task and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with and knowledge of Labour Relations procedures and processes and Collective Agreements
  • Knowledge of FIPPA regulations
  • Well-developed knowledge and understanding of the complex organizations
  • Relevant knowledge of legislation impacting the workplace including an understanding of the labour/employment relations environment
  • Proven success in establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion and the ability to work with a diverse student, staff and faculty population.
  • Ability to deliver results accurately, quickly, and efficiently while adapting to shifting priorities
  • Experience with recruitment is an asset. 


  • Work experience in a post-secondary setting
  • Extensive and prior experience with Senate Bylaws and faculty and staff collective agreements
  • Knowledge of financial procedures (FIS)
