Admission

Entrance to the MFA program at the University of Windsor is a competitive process. We look for dynamic and creative individuals who demonstrate strong potential for creative work at the graduate level.
 
Applications that meet the minimum requirements (listed below) are vetted on the basis of portfolio submissions. We accept only a small number of applicants each year.

Applications for the upcoming academic year are due by January 15thFor more information about program specifics, consult the graduate calendar for the MFA in Film & Media Arts. 

Applications for the 2024/2025 academic year are now closed. 


Application procedures and requirements:

  1. Begin your online application with the Faculty of Graduate Studies
  2. Have an Honours B.A. with a major in Visual Arts, Film, or Media Arts (or from equivalent undergraduate programs in cognate disciplines who are engaged in the study of art and/or, culture).
  3. Have attained at least a 70% average in undergraduate courses.
  4. Have successfully completed coursework in art history, visual culture or related cultural theory (applicants may be considered for the program with the stipulation that deficiencies be made up).
  5. Present transcripts of all university and/or college-level work.
  6. Present three letters of recommendation.
  7. A 500-word letter of intent outlining your studio interests, why you are interested in pursuing an MFA at the University of Windsor, and what kind of work you plan to produce in the program.
  8. A current Curriculum Vitae (C.V.).
  9. English Proficiency Tests: For applicants whose native language is not English, a minimum score of 220 on the TOEFL English proficiency test, a score of 7.0 on the IELTS, or a 120 on the DuoLingo English test is required.
  10. A portfolio of recent work must be included with your Master of Fine Arts application. [see portfolio specifications below].

Applications for admission to the Master of Fine Arts programs must be complete by January 15, 2024 to be considered for financial awards from the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

All submissions must include a single PDF portfolio document with images and embedded links as well as listing title, date, medium and dimensions for each image/video.  You do not need to submit both still images and videos. Please select the medium that will best showcase your work. 

This file must be uploaded with your E-Gas application.

 


Still Images:

  • Submit up to 20 JPEG images
  • Image resolution should not exceed 1024×768

Video:

  • Submit 3 video samples
  • Videos may also be submitted as Quicktime (.MOV) files
  • Files should not exceed 3 minutes in length
