PROFILES
Jeffrey PRICE is on the faculty of the University of Windsor, Ontario, the University of Michigan-Flint, the MSU Community Music School, and the Flint School of Performing Arts where he is the saxophone instructor, director of the jazz ensemble, chair of the Winds and Brass department, and coordinator of the faculty concert series and adult programs. He has taught for Mott Community College and Spring Arbor University in the past.
In addition to leading his own group, Price has performed with the Cab Calloway Orchestra, and has been heard on CBC radio (Canada) as part of several ensembles that performed on the Windsor Canadian Music Festival in 2010 and 2012. He has performed the premiers of several works for saxophone, including the world premier of Piece for Jeff, by French composer Josselin VINAY, Michael STEPHENS’ Shards of Frozen Ecstasy, Five Pieces for Saxophone Quartet by Braxton BLAKE, and Meditation for flute, saxophone, and computer by Gregory CORNELIUS.
His musical awards include first prize at the prestigious Coleman Chamber Music Competition in Pasadena, CA, in both 2001 and 2002. He also won first prize at the 2002 Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition. Solo awards include winning the state and regional rounds of the National Federation of Music Clubs Solo Competition, second place in the 2002 Sorantin Competition Winds Division, and being a finalist in the 2004-2005 MSU Concerto Competition.
As a teacher/clinician, Price is in demand in the greater Genesee county area. He was also invited to Limonest, France, to teach saxophone at the Limonest Conservatory.
Price holds a M.M. from Bowling Green State University where he also served as graduate assistant to Distinguished Research/Artist Professor Dr. John Sampen, and a B.M. from Youngstown State University where he studied with Dr James Umble. He has completed extensive additional graduate studies at Michigan State University, studying under Joseph Lulloff as well.
Dr. Ina Yoon, piano
Dr. Ina Yoon was born in South Korea where she was the first prize-winner of numerous piano competitions, including the Korean News Paper Performing Arts Competition and the Education Music Competition in Kyung Nam. She was featured as a soloist with the Flint Symphony Orchestra in 2008 and the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra in 2011. She has an extensive performance background as both a soloist and chamber musician in South Korea, France, and the United States. She won third prize in the prestigious 2008 International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition as well. Dr. Yoon earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Saginaw Valley State University, a master’s degree from Ohio State University, and earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Michigan State University. She has studied with several prominent pianists, including Louis Nagel, Steven Glaser and Panayis Lyras. Dr. Yoon has been on the faculty of the Flint School of Performing Arts since 2006. Currently, she is Piano Department Chair, Little Mozarts Program Coordinator, and teaches piano lessons and group classes. She also teaches at Kettering University.
