Background:
The University Singers (MUSP-2100) is the oldest and largest musical ensemble on campus, with a membership of 70 - 80 singers each semester under the direction of Dr. Bruce Kotowich. We welcome members from all segments of the campus who can pass a minimal audition. As do all our ensembles, the University Singers carries a half course credit which is repeatable for several semesters, and is a graded course. Thus, it makes an attractive Arts option for those who need such a credit.
The choir usually performs two or three times per year, including (in many years) an appearance with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. In April 1997, they were one of two choirs who joined the WSO to give two performances of Mendelssohn's landmark oratorio, Elijah. In 2007 they joined the WSO and its chorus for a performance of Orff's Carmina Burana. In 2011 and 2017, the University Singers joined the WSO and its chorus for two performances of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9; in 2014, they performed in the WSO's concert performance of the opera Carmen by Bizet; and in March 2015 the University Singers joined the WSO and its chorus in a moving performance of Richard Einhorn's "Voices of Light" that accompanied the silent movie "The Passion of Joan of Arc". The University Singers are also an integral part of "A Festival of Christmas, " the annual Christmas choral concert presented by the University of Windsor School of Creative Arts | Music.
