Why a Choral Audition, What Happens?

  • At the audition we get to know your musical background and you learn about your voice in the choirs.
  • Placement auditions are scheduled outside of rehearsal time.
  • You will vocalize (sing short scales passages) and sing a brief song of your choice, eg. a folk tune, carol, or Happy Birthday.
  • Depending on the choir and your background, you will be asked to either sing a tonal memory exercise (Dr. Kotowich will play a short melody and you sing it back) or sing a sight-reading example.
  • Voice Majors are asked to sing an art song or aria.

All interested members are to attend the first rehearsal even if the audition has not been completed.

All rehearsals meet in Armouries B-22.
