Fall 2022 Semester:
A Message from President Gordon & Provost Weir

Hello UWindsor students, faculty and staff,

It is with great excitement and anticipation that we prepare to welcome you back to campus for the Fall 2022 semester. There is a renewed sense of energy as we plan for teaching, learning and research on-campus at levels comparable to before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although our priority has always been the health and safety of our campus community, an important theme of our return to campus plans from the pandemic’s outset has been the importance of campus life and community. Since March 2020, our students, faculty and staff sought creative solutions to ensure that even while apart, campus life and a sense of togetherness remained. That work will serve us well as we come together this fall.

It’s important to acknowledge that at this stage of the pandemic, society and its institutions have adapted to life with COVID-19. We will continue to promote and recommend guidance from public health officials.

We know that vaccination plays an important role in the collective fight against COVID-19. Accordingly, we will continue to strongly recommend getting your full series of vaccine doses, including boosters. Doing so has directly contributed to more favourable outcomes from COVID-19 infections. In addition, like many Ontario post-secondary institutions, the University of Windsor will require attestation of vaccination status for those living in residence, so as to be better able to manage potential outbreaks and isolation directives. We will also continue to provide opportunities to get vaccinated on campus, with the next vaccination clinic planned for Friday, September 9. Further details will be broadly communicated.

While the COVID-19 Vaccination Policy is currently suspended, as previously communicated on March 31, the University reserves the right to reinstate the policy should public health directives recommend it to protect the health and wellness of our campus, community and our healthcare system.

We know that masking plays a significant role in stopping the spread. We will continue to require masking indoors where physical distancing of two metres cannot be maintained. For the latest updates to the mask policy, please review it here.

Finally, the COVID-19 protocols which served to keep campus safe through the pandemic remain in place:

  • Anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms must not attend campus or University of Windsor events. Report your illness to covid19reporting@uwindsor.ca

  • Prior to entering a campus building, individuals should review the screening questions posted at entrances. If you are unable to answer no to all posted screening questions, do not enter the building and email covid19reporting@uwindsor.ca for instructions.

  • Observe and follow COVID-19 protocol signage posted throughout campus.

  • Good hand and respiratory hygiene continue to be a smart practice.

We look forward to welcoming you at in-person Welcome Week events which are sure to be filled with an energy and excitement perhaps never seen before. After more than two long years, our return to campus is finally here. Celebrate it!

We wish you the best in all your endeavours here at the University of Windsor.

Sincerely,

Rob Gordon, PhD
President and Vice Chancellor
Patti Weir, PhD
Interim Provost and Vice-President, Academic
