Subject: WUFA Summer Speakers' Series - The University of Windsor Pension Plan and the University Pension Plan

July 19, 2022

Dear WURA,

I am writing to provide details regarding a WUFA Summer Speakers’ Series presentation being held tomorrow, July 20, 2022. This session is meant to provide information on the University Pension Plan (UPP) that has recently commenced operations in the province.  Similar to the Ontario Teacher’s Pension Plan, this is a new plan that would see Universities across the province pool their pensions together under a common administrator.  More information about the University Pension plan can be found at https://myupp.ca.

The recorded session will begin with WUFA Grievance Chair, Pierre Boulos, and Contract Chair & former WUFA President, Peter Zimmerman speaking on the existing Pension Plan for Faculty and certain employees, and our experiences working with the University on its administration of the plan.  After that, we will have a presentation from UPP representatives: Chief Pension Services Officer, Ms. Joanna Lohrenz and Chief Engagement & Strategy Officer, Ms. Kathy Johnson who will speak about the types of benefits that the UPP offers and will also speak about the particulars of how this plan is administered.  Participants will be given 30 minutes to ask questions of any of the panelists.  Questions may be submitted in advance to wufa@uwindsor.ca (before 12:00 PM on July 19th please) or from the floor.

WUFA Speaker Series: The University of Windsor Pension Plan vs. The University Pension Plan (UPP)
Date: Wednesday, July 20, 2022
Time: 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Where: MS Teams
RSVP:  wufa@uwindsor.ca to receive the MS Teams link to join the session

PLEASE NOTE:  No decision has been made about whether to move the pension to the UPP.  This session is being provided for informational purposes only in order to gauge any interest in exploring this option further.

In Solidarity,
