Our enthusiastic leader Anne McCallum will lead us through some very interesting experiences in “dance”. The class will begin each session with simple warm-up stretching exercises using a chair for support. Then we’ll work on the basic steps and patterns and dance to wonderful traditional music. Great exercise for the body and mind, uplifting and, as the dancers say, ‘so much fun!’ Come join us! No partner necessary. Bring comfortable shoes with soles that won’t stick to the floor.

In the United States, but also in Germany, Hungary, France, Italy, and Britain, as well as Israel, Brazil, and other countries, powerful rightwing movements have recently been on the rise, sometimes in government, sometimes close to winning government, sometimes recently ousted. This course will examine the phenomenon and present some of the arguments from sociologists, historians, and political scientists for what can explain this development. We will attempt empathetically to understand socio-economic, cultural-psychological, and other factors that have boosted the appeal of these movements to a significant proportion of citizens in a few of these nations.
