A reception Tuesday, April 12, will mark the closing of Traces, a group exhibition by MFA candidates in the School of Creative Arts.

Patrons will have a chance to view the works and meet participating artists:
  • Idriss Askour,
  • Nathalie Dubois Calero,
  • Daniela Gonzalez,
  • Lyndsay McKay,
  • Jules Pietras,
  • Steve Rose, and
  • Nate Talbot
from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The exhibition comprises two parts — visual works in the SoCA Gallery in the Armoury Building, and Luminous Flux, sound and video works in the Multi-Media Studio Space in the Alan Wildeman Centre for Creative Arts.

Throughout the exhibit, the artist’s works are anchored through their particular ability to describe and convey a sense of “trace”. Whether referring to an indexical relationship with the subject represented, or referencing an identifiable location, or one that is conceptual and abstract, the artists hand over the highest value to the exploration of material, including its own sense of time and place, interactions, agencies, and histories. The collection encourages the viewer to contemplate – or decipher – the context in which ideas of “trace” extend to one another, connecting through themes of death, loss and absence, magic, sustainability, domesticity, memory and recollection.
