Writing Support Desk
 

The Writing Support Desk (WSD) service helps students from all areas of campus with several aspects of academic writing, including:

  • Interpreting assignment prompts.
  • Constructing strong theses and arguments.
  • Solving grammar, punctuation, and syntax problems.
  • Analyzing and integrating sources.
  • Citing and referencing.
  • Developing active reading habits.

Is the WSD an editing service?

No. Please note that the WSD is not a proofreading service. Though WSD personnel will examine as much of a sample of writing as they can in the space of a one-on-one consultation, the service’s goal is to teach students how to improve their writing—not to simply edit their work. How can my students make an appointment for a one-on-one consultation?

While walk-in appointments are welcome, the WSD strongly recommends that students book an appointment (through UWinsite Student) at least one week in advance. You can learn more about UWinsite Student at https://www.uwindsor.ca/registrar/uwinsite-student.

Does the WSD offer services beyond one-on-one consultation?

The Writing Support Desk conducts specialized workshops on a range of writing issues for UWindsor student groups. A current WSD Workshop Schedule is located on the WSD Website.

If you would like to request an in-class presentation for a class of students in your department, please complete the WSD In-Class Presentation/Event Request Form.
