Transforming Essex Hall

In addition to housing science programs in chemistry, biomedicine, and physics, Essex Hall is home to the Chemical Control Centre. Currently in the planning stages, a project is seeking to re-invent Essex Hall as modern, student-friendly spaces while preserving heritage aspects of the building, which dates to 1961. Among the changes envisioned are modernizing classrooms, offices, laboratories, and common areas, and updating infrastructure to reflect sustainability goals while reducing its carbon footprint.
