Graduating this June and not sure what’s next? Start your career right after undergrad with the Windsor-Essex Career Apprenticeship Program (WECAP)!
WECAP connects upcoming FAHSS grads with Windsor-Essex County employers for early-career apprenticeship opportunities that provide mentorship, skill development, and the ability to contribute to the growth and development of the organization.
Participating students receive support from Career Development & Experiential Learning to prepare for and participate in a competitive application and hiring process. All WECAP opportunities are full-time and paid for at least one year and candidates successful in receiving a job offer will begin their apprenticeship in May or June of 2023.

Career and employment readiness: Engage in workshops, one-on-one career advising, and a competitive application and interview process to build your job readiness skills.
Potential full-time, paid employment for 1 year post-graduation: Opportunity to secure an apprenticeship role designed for early-career professionals in Windsor-Essex County for at least one year.
On-the-job experience and contribution to the local community: Opportunity to launch a career with a local employer while making a meaningful contribution, discovering strengths, and developing skills.
Mentorship: Connection with a career mentor, providing valuable networking opportunities to build new professional relationships.
To apply for roles available in this program, students must meet the following criteria:
Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences new grad
- Must be a current student or recent graduate from a Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences undergraduate degree program at the University of Windsor.
- Completing final semester in Fall 2022 or Winter 2023 and approved or conditionally eligible to graduate at Spring 2023 convocation at time of application.
Able to work full-time for 1 year begining May 2023
- Ready to enter the workforce by May 2023 and able to commit to 12 continuous months of full-time employment beginning in May or June of 2023.
Canadian citizen/perminent resident eligible to work in Canada
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident legally eligible to work full-time in Canada as of December 31, 2022.
Committment to employment readiness workshops and appointments
- Willing to attend employment readiness workshops and access coaching to ensure a quality application process.
Step 1: Submit an interest form to stay up to date on key information-Survey is now closed.
Step 2: Emgage in specific workshops and appointments to develop your resume, cover letter, and interview skills designed to prepare you for the job competition
Step 3: Apply to WECAP job postings on mySuccess:
- Positions will be available through the program and will be listed in the Career job postings module.
- All positions will be paid, full-time, and for at least one year.
- Not every student who applies will be invited to interviews or offered a job.
- Participating employers will decide from their pool of applicants who to interview and rank for a job offer.
Step 4: Accept an apprenticeship opportunity with a Windsor-Essex County organization if offered.
Step 5: Be matched with a mentor who will be available to provide support during the apprenticeship.
Step 6: Work with the employer as an apprentice for one year with the potential to remain on with the company or leverage the one year of experience to apply for another role.
November 25, 2022: The student interest form is now closed.
December 2022 - March 2023: Students attend workshops and 1:1 career advising appointments to prepare and receive feedback on their resumes, cover letters, and interview skills.
February 28, 2023: Job postings begin to be posted on mySuccess for students to apply.
March 13, 2023: Application deadline to apply for WECAP opportunities.
March 20 - 31, 2023: Eligible candidates selected by participating employers invited to attend interviews.
April 7, 2023: Ranking/offer details sent to selected students.
April 10, 2023: Deadline for students to submit ranking/intention to accept an offer.
April 11, 2023: Match results and next steps communicated to students/employers.
May 1 – June 30, 2023: Apprenticeship begins.
