When I first started applying for co-op positions, I didn’t know what to expect. This being my first placement, I didn’t know if I would find a job that would satisfy my skills. Well, my experience instead exceeded all of my expectations.
I’ve worked for the past 4 months with ENWIN Utilities Ltd., as a co-op student in Communications and Public Relations. It amazes me how much I’ve learned and how much I’ve accomplished in such a short period of time. I had the pleasure working with amazing people in many different areas of the company. I have worked hand and hand with the Conservation and Demand Management department on several events, marketing projects and media collaboration.
Throughout my placement, I was mentored by the wonderful Barbara Peirce Marshall who taught me so much about Communications and really encouraged me to pursue it in the future. I thoroughly enjoy working with her and one of our projects at ENWIN was the ground-breaking launch of social media. The company had been talking about launching social media for a while, and I arrived just at the right time to move the launch forward! As of August 6, 2014, we went live on YouTube, posting our first 2 videos; one for electricity and one for water! This was indeed the proudest work day I have ever had! It is such a pleasure for me to start up this positive online presence for the company. It was also tremendously enjoyable to see the benefits of my hard work in this area.
I am so pleased with and thankful for my work experience at ENWIN Utilities Ltd. I am looking forward to applying my new skills and further exploring my newly found interest in the Communications field. I have also gained skills in the implementation of video clips and am eager to continue to use video to enhance my marketing strategies.
