Tour offers view inside Windsor Jail

If you ever wanted to get into the Windsor Jail—and get out again—now is your chance.

One of Ontario’s oldest correctional facilities, the historic building at 328 Brock Street is opening its doors to the public for tours November 14 to 16. Built in 1925, the jail ceased operations in August 2014 when inmates transferred to the new South West Detention Centre.

The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services is offering a limited number of tickets for tours:

  • Friday, November 14, 12:30 to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 15, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, November 16, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The 35-minute tours start every 20 minutes, with entry limited to 25 people at a time. Tickets must be purchased in advance at a cost of $10 per person (children under 12 years old admitted free) with proceeds going towards the establishment of a Correctional Services Memorial. Organizers will also collect donations for the local food bank.

Additional information and online order forms for tickets are available on the event website.
