Women cagers win provincial recognition

Ontario University Athletics honoured five members of the first-place Lancer women’s basketball team Wednesday when it announced all-stars and major award winners in the sport.

Guard Korissa Williams is a first-team all-star and takes home the Defensive Player of the Year Award after finishing the season with an average of 19.3 points, 4.7 assists, 3.6 steals, and seven rebounds per game.

Forward Cheyanne Roger receives first-team all-star honours after averaging 12.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, and finishing second in the conference with 1.8 blocks per game.

Rounding out Windsor’s all-star selections is guard Jocelyn LaRocque, named a second-team all-star after averaging 11 points and 3.5 rebounds per game—and finishing seventh in the conference with 34 three-point shots.

For the fifth time in her career, Windsor head coach Chantal Vallée is OUA Coach of the Year. Under her guidance, the Lancers have won four consecutive national championships and this year racked up a 19-1 regular season record despite losing several key members from last year’s roster.

OUA selected first-year guard Carly Steer to its all-rookie team. The Windsor native averaged 16 minutes and 5.8 points in each of the 19 games she played.
