Oral history project subject of lecture

History professor Steven High of Concordia University will discuss his work recording survivor accounts of mass violence in a free public lecture Monday, Jan. 25.

His interest in forced migration, community-engaged research, and oral history methodology and ethics all informed his work on the seven-year project “Life Stories of Montrealers Displaced by War, Genocide, and other Human Rights Violations.”

Dr. High worked in partnership with survivor groups in the recording of 500 life stories and their integration into online digital stories, radio programming, audio walks, art installations, a year-long museum exhibition, pedagogical materials, and a range of theatrical performances.

His talk, entitled “Going Public with the Montreal Life Stories Project: Oral History as Research Creation,” is sponsored by the Propeller Project. It will begin at 2:30 p.m. via Zoom; register here to attend.
