Scholarships available to recognize exceptional first-year students

An award recognizing first-year students for exceptional academic accomplishment, leadership qualities, and a five-year record of community involvement is a rare opportunity, says Simon du Toit, UWindsor program co-ordinator for Outstanding Scholars and leadership development.

The Fessenden-Trott Scholarship is a $9,000 annual award, renewable for up to three consecutive years. It rotates by province, and 2021 is Ontario’s year.

Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents by June 16, 2021.

“If you know a student you think meets these criteria, please encourage them to apply,” says Dr. du Toit.

He is co-ordinating the selection process for the University of Windsor, supported by a selection committee, and will accept completed applications submitted to sdutoit@uwindsor.ca by May 15.

Applications will include two letters of reference, an official transcript of the students’ first two semesters of grades, and other materials (see guidelines here). One nominee will be selected to represent the University of Windsor.
